Inclusion North has been running the Talking Travel Network since 2013. The aim of this work is:
To get good information about what is
happening to help people with learning disabilities travel around.
To bring people together from across the North
East to share good ideas and the work we are doing. What is the talking travel network about? To have a stronger voice in saying how to make travel better for people with learning disabilities.
To work on projects that we think will help
people with learning disabilities travel around more easily.
To think about what we can do to help people
feel safe when they are travelling. What has the Network been doing? There have been regular meetings to update the network on new developments and look at local issues.
A Safe Places learning and sharing event took place
covering the whole of the North East.
Promoted the development of easy read materials so
people can be involved with consultations.
Taken part in transport events to advise and inform.
Signposted involvement requests to specific groups. What is the plan for 2017? To set up Talking Travel in the Tees Valley
For taxi, bus and train services to remain a
focus for the network. Champions in the North East are supporting the work around this.
Awareness of the work being done around
safe places and how this encourages people to get out and about more.
To find out what is available to support people
develop their independence with travelling. What is the plan for 2017-2018? To continue to share the opportunities for people to have their say through travel & transport consultations.
To keep up to date through the use of
information briefings. These will be prepared using information from the wider network. How can we support your wider work? Do you have things you would like to see added to the plan?
