Alan Lipschultz has over 40 years working professionally with all
types of medical devices and equipment. For 39 years he was the Director of Clinical Engineering at two major different medical centers, responsible for all of the healthcare technology used in those hospitals. Alan is currently the Vice President of the American College of Clinical Engineering; on the Editorial Board of Biomedical Instrumentation of Instrumentation & Technology; and on AAMI's Technology Management Committee. Alan was the co-chair of the AAMI Standards Board (1993-2015); and the chair of the NFPA-99 Medical Equipment Technical Committee (2007-2015). Alan formed his own consulting company in 2011. Since then he has served as a legal expert in over 36 cases (both plaintiffs and defendants) involving a wide variety of medical device issues. He has presented and/or authored papers on patient safety, medical device alarms, infusion pumps, incident investigation and a wide variety of other healthcare technology topics.
