Extraction

Extraction is a method to separate a compound from

sample using appropiate solvents. The sample can be
a solid form (solid-liquid extraction) and
liquid form (liquid-liquid extraction).

Solid-liquid extraction can be done at hot and

room temperature, i.e. soxhlet and maceration, respectively

Liquid-liquid extraction, a solution is mixed thoroughly

with a second solvent. The second solvent is not miscible
with the first solvent, i.e separation funnel.
Extraction
Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), extraction uses
adsorbent like column chromatography.
The adsorbent is non-polar solid material such as
C-18 silica. SPE is similar to reverse phase
chromatography.

Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE)

CO2 gas in a supercritical state is a good selective
solvent, for example on extraction of caffeine from
beans. Supercritical state is a condition of CO2 gas
on a liquid and a gas phase.
Solid-liquid extraction (Ekstraksi pepejal-cecair)
1. Hot extraction (soxhlet)

2. Cold extraction (maceration)
