RAPID PROTOTYPING

Pedagogy Presentation
Lesson plan
Introduction
Instant food, instant messages, internet,
chatting, all these were unknown to common man few
decades back and today they are into our lives where
we cant expect to live a day without using mobile or
other gadgets.
Introduction
Technologies also made its
way into dental and medical
fields and have changed the
face of treatment modalities
in a given situation be it
partial or complete denture
prosthodontics.

It is highly essential for us to

quickly accept and adapt to
these new concepts with a
little caution.
WHAT IS RAPID PROTOTYPING?
Rapid prototyping is one such technology of today
that is extremely beneficial in prosthodontic
planning and simulation.

Rapid prototyping refers to automatic construction

of mechanical models from graphical computer data.

Rapid prototyping is a type of computer-aided

manufacturing (CAM) and is one of the components
of rapid manufacturing.
Methods of rapid prototyping

Two main methods of rapid prototyping are:

Additive - widely used

Subtractive - less effective

METHODS OF RAPID PROTOTYPING
Common additive technologies are:

Selective laser sintering

Fused deposition modeling

Multi-jet modeling

Stereolithography
PROCEDURE
PROCESS
Create a CAD model of the design

Convert the CAD model to STL format

(stereolithography)
Slice the STL file into thin cross-
sectional layers
Construct the model one layer atop
another

Clean and finish the model

RAPID PROTOTYPING PROCESSES

SLS --- Selective Laser Sintering

SLA --- Stereolithography

LOM --- Laminated Object Manufacturing

FDM --- Fused Deposition Modeling
