Senior High School

What is Senior High School ?


Senior High School is secondary education at
formal education in Indonesia after graduating
secondary school (or equivalent) . High school
taken within 3 years , starting from grade 10 to
grade 12 .

History
In the reign of the Dutch East Indies , for the Dutch , European
or indigenous elites who have completed primary education in
ELS or HIS , can only continue secondary education generally
in Hoogere burgerschool ( the new spelling became Hogere
Burgerschool ) which is abbreviated HBS with a study period
of five years. After graduating from HBS , they can continue
their education to university in the Netherlands . In other
words HBS at the time the merger is similar to middle and
high school are now in one package. The middle school only
for the Dutch , European or indigenous elite . Until 1916 there
were four government-owned HBS is in Jakarta ( 1867) ,
Surabaya ( 1875) , Semarang ( 1 November 1877 ) , and
Bandung ( 1916)
In the academic year 1994/1995 to 2003/2004
SMA turned into SMU.
In the 2004/2005, SMU again changed to SMA
Culture
Public senior high school in Indonesia
generally use gray and white uniforms for the
regular day, a brown uniform for scout, and
some school use white-white uniform for flag
ceremony in Monday
Flag ceremony takes place every Monday
morning before the lesson begin.
