Basic Parts

of a Sentence
Two parts:

The subject tells who or what is talked about in


the sentence. It may be a noun, a pronoun, or a
noun phrase. Example:

Swimming provides a healthful form of exercise.


His favorite drink makes him energetic.
The predicate tells the action of or on the subject
or its state of being. It begins with a verb. Example:

A jet plane flies fast.


An elephant has ivory tusks.
