We use the present simple for:


Permanent or general states:
We live in a small village.
She doesnt work here.
Regular activities:
I play basketball on Thursdays.
He usually finishes work at five.
Positive statements
I, you, we, they eat pasta
He, she, it eats pasta
Negative statements
I, you, we, they dont eat pasta.
He, she, it doesnt eat pasta.
Questions
Do I, you, we, they eat pasta?
Does he, she, it eat pasta?
Expressions we use with the Present
Simple
Always, often, sometimes, usually, every day,
on Saturdays
I always play tennis on Saturdays.
She often goes to the cinema on Sundays.
Spelling 3rd person singular
When the verb ends in ss, -sh, -ch, or o, we
add es:
Miss-misses
Catch-catches
Watch-watches
Go-goes
Wash-washes
Spelling 3rd person singular
When the verb ends in y, we change the y
to ies:
Study-studies
Worry-worries
