Kjeldahl Method
+ Accurate
+ Low investment
+ Flexible
-High Investment
- Expensive Consumables/running costs
- Not as Flexible as Kjeldahl
-Slow when considering Sample Preparation
-Calibrated against Kjeldahl!

Kjeldahl Method

Johan Kjeldahl
1849 - 1900

Digestion - Consider
Level of automation
1. Only temp and time, on and off
2. Automatic step program and/or alarms
Good for water analyses and organic samples
Good for notifying when personell is doing other things
3. Automatic switch-off or not
Safety when leaving lab room
4. Automatic cooling of rack
No need to monitor the digestion step
Environmental Concerns
1. Fumes directly in the air or in Fume hood
2. Fumes via exhaust but thereafter directly in the air
Not recommended
3. Fumes via exhaust and thereafter Water Ejector
Cheap solution
4. Fumes via exhaust and Scrubber
Models
Digestor Auto
Everything needed except the automatic lifting of rack (automatic cooling)
Includes one Rack
Digestor 10 with 10 positions or Digestor 20 with 20 positions
Digestor Advanced
Everything needed to run digestion without surveillance
Includes both rack and exhaust
Digestor 10 with 10 positions or Digestor 20 with 20 positions
Scubber
Recommended for environmental concerns (longer lifetime, less vapours in the lab)

Additional Benefits
Be n e fit Ad va n ta g e C o mp e tito rs
Automatic Programs Easy and fast to initiate a digestion Not all Semi-Auto Digestors have this
Only high quality materials used Saves cost in maintenance Not all Digestors resulting in broken
glass and/or rust
High quality exhaust racks Lowers cost for maintenance - robust design of seals Not all Digestors
reduces amount of exchanges, saves cost
Fully automatic Motor rack in Digestor Saves time when no surveillance of process is necessary -
Advanced and there is automatic cooling of samples
Manual Programming of temperature, time Easy to customize your Digestor Not all Digestors
and end-behaviour
Alarm signal simplifies surveillance of process - saves time
