When the temperature of the

air inside the hand glove

,the volume of the air inside the
hand glove when the
pressure inside the balloon is
kept constant.
Why hand glove become smaller?
Explain it?
Charles’s law states that for a
fixed mass of gas, the volume of the
gas is directly proportional to its
absolute temperature (Kelvin) when its
pressure is kept constant.

V∞T
The graph of volume, V against
absolute temperature, Ѳ for a fixed
mass of gas is
V/ m³

0 Ѳ/ K
Applications of Charles’ Law
Hot air balloon
When the air inside the balloon is heated at atmospheric
pressure, the temperature of the air inside the balloon will
increase.

According to the Charles’ law, when the volume of a fixed

mass of gas increases when the temperature is increased if
the pressure is to be kept constant.

 Therefore, the volume of the air inside the balloon

increased and the balloon expand.

Changes in room temperature

caused the coloured water
column in the tube to move.
The correct answer is:

When the room temperature

increases, the kinetic energy
of the air molecules
increases. Since the air in the
flask is allowed to expand,
therefore the faster
molecules move in a bigger
space. Thus the coloured
water column will move
upward.
