What is the Achievement Gap?
The Achievement Gap occurs
when there is a variation in
enrollment and academic
work among different groups
of students.

Students of all ages, especially:
students from low income families
racial/ethnic minorities
english language learners
students with disabilities
gender

the economic equivalent of a permanent national recession- substantially larger than


the deep recession the country is currently experiencing.

As researchers illuminate patterns of lower performances within
student populations, educators and leaders will be better
equipped to understand contributing factors and design targeted
intervention methods and engagement strategies that help close
the gaps.

The massive impact on colleges equates to an impact on needing


more academic advisors, counselors, and teachers willing to
become a major role in helping students discover where they want
to go academically and career wise in the future.
