What do English-speaking people like to talk about?


What is one of the first topics in a conversation? 'What do you
do?' 'How's work?' 'What's happening at work?'

In cultures that value individualism and independence


people find their identity in their achievements, especially their
work.

In cultures that value group, a person's identity may be


more closely linked to his or her family or ethnicity.
In English, work plays a very large role in people's
live.
Student's often have part-time jobs to help pay for
their studies and support themselves and also to get
experience working.
Housewives do not earn a salary but they work very
hard.
There are many types of volunteer jobs too, for examples in
school and hospitals.
The habits in working are related to the value of
egalitarianism.

Men and women will often be doing the same jobs


with the same responsibilities, and everyone has a turn
making the tea and doing the washing-up.

Each person is responsible for their own tasks


although in a team-work.
At work in English speaking contexts, address your
boss, supervisor, manager, director, or even the president of
the company with his or her first name, there are not always
use formal titles.
Meetings, meetings are common at most businesses.
It is held for taking about small decisions or planning. You
should be a good listener in meeting and should not
interrupt the speaker. You will be given your chance to
speak. Nodding your head from one side to the other or up
and down is very confusing.
Dress codes may very widely. Make sure to ask in
advance about the dress code.

Some places institute a casual dress code on Fridays


and as compared to other day.
An organization is said to have a strong work
culture when the employees follow the organizations rules
and regulations and adhere to the existing guidelines.
Characteristics of a Healthy work Culture:
A healthy work culture leads to satisfied employees and
an increased productivity.
Employees must be cordial with each other. One must
respect his fellow worker.
Each employee should be treated as one.
Appreciating the top performers is important.
Encourage discussions at the workplace.
Organization must have employee friendly policies and
practical guidelines.
