EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING IN

ARCTIC

ADARSH SATHEESH
Why the Arctic Matters for Global Warming
Melting ice speeds up climate change : Global warming causes
the Arctic ice to melt. When the Arctic ice melts, the oceans around it
absorb more sunlight making the world warmer as a result.

Sea levels are rising : Melting Arctic

ice is expected to speed up sea level
rise. Some experts even estimate that
the oceans will rise as much as 23 feet
by 2100, which would flood major
coastal cities causing devastation.

Oil in the Arctic: Dependence of Arctic

oil causes global warming. Big Corporations
trying to exploit it by burning fossil fuels.
Current situation

The Arctic ice is highly sensitive to changes in air and ocean

temperature.
The Arctic ice is shrinking at an alarming rate of 9 percent per year.
According to the NASA-supported National Snow the Arctic sea ice
extent peaked at 14.52 million square kilometers on March 24 of this
year.
The number is slightly smaller than the annual maximum ice extent
of 14.54 million square kilometers in 2015, and is 1.12 million square
kilometers below the average from 1981 to 2010.
Prevention
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Prevent Drilling
Use less heat and air
conditioning
Save electricity
