Attolia saw his body jerk against the straps. She had expected him to cry out, but he
made no sound. He turned away from the sight of right arm, and she saw his face
grow white as the blood drained away .

He struggled for breath as his thoughts circled like birds that couldnt find a perch,
searching for a way to change the truth, to change the queen of Attolia, but her decision
was final, the action irrevocable.

(The Plot)
In a time of political instability, the Thief of
Eddis finds his country going to war with
Attolia, the neighbor of Sounis and Eddis, and
ruled by a queen who is the Thief s personal
enemy. Now, the Thief who is said can steal
anything, must find a way to steal peace or risk
the collapse of his kingdom. When every
action is as much political as it is personal and
any word from you can be as much a threat of
war as it is a sarcastic comment, the Queen of
Attolia and The Thief of Eddis must do
whatever it takes to protect their kingdoms
from threats both outside and within and find a
way to secure their nations and people.

The Thief of Eddis
Known as Eugenides, which is both his given name and the court title for anyone who holds the position of
Queens Thief
He is named after the Eddison God of Thieves and is said he can steal anything
Eugenides is a trickster of the utmost skill, he is obfuscating and sarcastic and a playful teenage boy in the
beginning guided by a love for his country of Eddis and a good heart
A dangerous political tool to the kingdom of Attolia, he haunts the halls of the Attolian palace, spying and
leaving mocking gifts
Eugenides has to relearn who he is when his identity is shattered by the loss of his physical ability
Must come to see himself and the things he is capable of differently and become more aware and attentive to
the intricacies of political performance and grow up in ways he never wanted or expected to
The Queen of Attolia
Known as Irene Attolia, the shadow queen, she is harsh but fair ruler trying to keep power on a throne in a
kingdom full of conspiring and plotting barons and little peace at court
Was never supposed to inherit the throne, but soon found herself a powerless pawn in a game for her hand
and the throne after the death of her father and older brother
Made herself queen through clever manipulations and shows of power
Attolia is emotionally distant, a powerful queen who has forged her own power and stands alone because she
must, who pursues and metes justice for her people where she can and who holds sharply to her hard won
crown and will not soon surrender it
Must learn to live with the terrible things she has done as queen and learn to trust in others and not bare all
things herself and how to be gentle with herself and recognize she can be both queen and person
The Queen of Eddis
Known as Helen Eddis, she is the beloved mountain queen of Eddis, a kind ruler and Eugenidess queen and
elder distant cousin
Inherited the throne after the death of her father and then brothers to sickness with the support of the
Eddison court to her ascendance
Took the name Eddis as if she was a male ruler rather than the proper female form of Eddia as a mark of
her right to rule
Eddis and Eugendies are close despite her position as his queen and she acts as an elder sister figure
Eddis must come to terms with her actions as ruler and cousin both when she goes to war with Attolia over
the capture of her Thief and accept his choices as she tries to find a way to peace
