Role of Local Agents
• Cashless community economic activity often has local entrepreneurs
• They accept items in trade for products from the cities
• Often they’re the community business people (warungs, etc)
• Sometimes they’re traveling shops (on trucks or motorcycles)
Incentive to Become Local Agents
• Already their business model to sell things at a profit
• 5% mark up on amount of electricity credit purchased
• 25 households @ Rp 100,000/month = Rp 125,000/month income
• Possibility to sell other things such as LED lights
• Possibility to provide battery charging stations or battery swaps
Electricity sale business models
Pay as You Go (Prepaid)
• Provide a fixed price per kWh of electricity
• Customer pre-pays the amount of electricity they’ll likely use
• Once purchased, not time limited (maybe 12 months expiration?)
• Higher price to the consumer
• Project owner unsure when the next sale is
Electricity sale business models
Take or Pay (Prepaid)
• Provide a daily quota of electricity (600Wh/day)
• Price depends on: daily quota amount and length of time purchased
• Daily/Weekly/Monthly
• Provide guarantee of income to project on a monthly base (if only
monthly is available)
The role of smart meters
• Allows for flexible fee collection structure
• Each household can choose a different fee structure
• Collects and sends usage data to centralized server
• Anti tamper features (short circuit, meter bypass, etc)
