BACKGROUND INFO
City of Alexandria
 A port city that grew to be an important, powerful
city.

 As the city grew, people of high intelligence were


lured into Alexandria because of its popularity.

 Alexander the Great made it his goal to turn the city


into something even more beautiful
Cleopatra
 Daughter of Ptlemy XII and Cleopatra V

 Born in either 69 or 70 BC

 She was known to be extremely beautiful

 Known as the “new Isis” (known for beauty)

 She was forced out of Egypt to Syria

 Built an army to win back her position


Cause

 Caused Alexandria to fall under Roman rule

 Tensions rose between the two Roman leaders at the


time: Caesar and Pompey

 After Pompey’s death Caesar was headed to


Alexandria
Battle

 First, Caesar’s troops fought the Alexandrians

 Then his troops fought the Egyptians

 Next Cleopatra’s troops fought the Egyptians and


shortly after Roman troops helped Cleopatra’s
troops (Seige of Alexandria)

 After many fights the Romans defeated the


Egyptians and restored Cleopatra to the throne of
Egypt
Conclusion
 Cleopatra and Caesar had a son

 She followed him back to Rome but returned after


he was killed

 She found a new husband who eventually


committed suicide by stabbing himself

 She later committed suicide by arranging an


Egyptian cobra to bite her
