MARRIAGE?
> a COMPLEX REALITY: a public, sacred, social, legal and
religious affair
> not only related to white gowns, rings, flowers, sponsors and receptions
> but also and mainly to love, children, a home, fidelity, heroism and
…faith.
FAITH
- A valid marriage contract cannot exist between baptized
persons without its being by the fact a SACRAMENT.
(can. 1055)
- Only in faith can one fully understand and live the meaning of
Christian marriage as a vocation, with mutual fidelity,
responsible parenthood and human maturity as some of its
ingredient.
TWO DEFINITIONS OF
MARRIAGE
Marriage is
a special contract
of permanent union between a
man and a woman
entered into in accordance with
law
for the establishment of conjugal and
family life.
According to NFCP
It is the foundation of family life and
an inviolable social institution whose
nature, consequences and incidents are
governed by law and not subject to
stipulation, except that marriage
settlements may fix the property
relations during the marriage within the
limits provided by this Code. (Art. 1)
MARRIAGE ACCORDING TO
THE REVISED CODE OF
CANON LAW
Marriage is …
a covenant by which a man and a woman
establish between themselves a partnership
of their whole life, and which by its very
nature is ordered to the well-being of the
spouses and to the procreation and
upbringing of children.
Marriage between the baptized has been raised
by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a
sacrament. (Canon 1055 pa. 1)
