THE COST OF BEING
JUDGEMENTAL
• After the results of the short story competition are released,
Lynne reads a short story by William Bradburie about an
elephant running loose in a park. She immediately assumes that
Geoff had copied Bradburie's story.

• In Mr Velos' office, Lynne learns that Geoff had only used the idea
but created his own story. Geoff askes Mr Velos to disqualify him
because he feels he had cheated eventhough he did not.

• Although she now receives the medal, it makes her wonder if she
herself had stolen the idea of a sheepdog in a flood from
somewhere.
CREATIVE WRITING IS NOT
ALWAYS TOTALLY ORIGINAL

Writers get their inspiration and ideas from various sources –personal
experience,people around them,the environment around them,world
events
Geoff got the idea of a circus elephant running loose for his short
story from William Bradburie’s book.Latter on,Lynne realise that her
own story may have been from another source. Therefore, she may be as
guilty as Geoff.
Sometimes works by the other wrtiets inspire us.For example
..Many of shakespears work originated from classic greek and roman
myths and legends.
Honesty Is The Best
Policy
Geoff is a shining example of truth and integrity. This is because he
immediately confesses to Mr Velos that he has read Bradburie’s story
which also had the idea of a circus elephant running loose.Geoff feels
that he might have accidently copied the idea and might have put
that into his own story.

Geoff is also commended for his courage in asking Mr Velos to

disqualify him.He bravely gives up the coveted medal.
Anything can be achieved through perseverance

• Lynne diligently wrote and rewrote her short story

until it was good enough to earn second place in the
competition.Even though it was really difficult for
her,she did not give up
