Description: The purpose of the celebration is to focus on the importance of loving, accepting and
appreciating the children.
Celebration: In school, the parents are invited to go and celebrate. All over the country special events
are held with clowns, magicians and balloons. Amusement parks, water parks, zoos, etc. offer discounts
for the children to go on this day.

Date: This years (2018) it starts February 9th and ends February 14th. Celebrated in Brazil every year,
46 days before the Easter festival.
Description: The roots of the festival are believed to be in the tradition of Roman Catholics when
they abstained from meat and alcohol on certain days as a method to drive away bad things from
their life.
Celebration: A major parade with beautifully dressed samba dancers atop a decorated moving
vehicle goes through the stadium as hundreds of people keep joining the parade as the parade
makes its way.

Date: There is no specific date. This traditions happens during any special celebration.
Description: this practice started when a rich family invited a much poorer family to dinner and to
make them feel better invited them to break the plates. The voluntary breaking of plates, which is a
type of controlled loss, may also have helped participants in dealing with the deaths of their loved
ones, a loss which they could not control.

Date: Also known as the Spring Festival, in China start on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month
of the Chinese calendar. The festival lasts for about 23 days, ending on the 15th day of the first lunar
month in the following year in the Chinese calendar.

Celebration: In the evening of the Spring Festival Eve, many people set off fireworks and
firecrackers, hoping to cast away any bad luck and bring forth good luck. Children often receive
“luck” money. Many people wear new clothes and send Chinese New Year greetings to each other.
Various activities such as beating drums and striking gongs, as well as dragon and lion dances, are all
part of the Spring Festival festivities.

Date: The Osun Osogbo festival usually lasts for two weeks, and it is celebrated every year in
August.
Description: The origin and story of Osun festival started over 700 years ago when a group of
settlers led by one great hunter Olutimehin, settled at the bank of the river to escape the famine in
their former dwelling place. Osun revealed herself to be the goddess of the grove and of the river
and pledged to protect the group and make their women fruitful if only they would offer the annual
sacrifice to her in return. The group agreed and vowed to sacrifice annually to the goddess if she
would honor her vows. Today, the annual sacrifice has gone past just offering sacrifices to a river
goddess, it has become an international celebration.

Date: January 26 of every year
Description: On January 26, 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip guides a fleet of 11 British ships
carrying convicts to the colony of New South Wales, effectively founding Australia. After overcoming
a period of hardship, the fledgling colony began to celebrate the anniversary of this date with great
fanfare.

Celebration: Aussies celebrate all the things loved about Australia: land, sense of fair go,
lifestyle, democracy, the freedoms they enjoy but particularly the people.
