What is it?
• Tool internal that enables adapt to sudden changes.
• It is philosophy that seeks to eliminate all types of waste.
• Just in time manufacturing goes hand in had with Kanban and total quality
management (TQM).
• Some characteristics of JIT are: Pull method of materials flow,
Consistently high quality.
Advantajes

 Just-in-time manufacturing keeps stock holding costs to a bare minimum.


 Just-in-time manufacturing eliminates waste.
 only essential stocks are obtained, less working capital is required to
finance procurement.
 As just-in-time production works on a demand-pull basis.
 Overproduction is eliminated when just-in-time manufacturing is adopted.
Disadvantajes

• Just-in-time manufacturing provides zero tolerance for mistakes.


• High reliance on suppliers is required.
• Due to there being no buffers for delays, production downtime and line.
• The organization would not be able to meet an unexpected increase in
orders due to the fact that there are no excess finish goods.
• Transaction costs would be relatively high as frequent transactions would be
made.
Precautions

 Support at all levels of the organization are required.


 Adequate resources should be allocated.
 Workstation capacity should be balanced.
 Preventive maintenance should be carried out.
 Set-up times should be reduced.
