SOIL EROSION – Is a natural process where
rocks and soil are broken or loose and move to
another location.
WEATHERING
1. Mechanical Weathering - cause by
environmental factors like water, wind,
temperature and weather.
2. Chemical Weathering - they dissolve rocks
and soil. Rootless plantlike organisms called
lichens help to form soil. They dissolve acid
that dissolve parts of rocks.
LANDFORMS CREATED
EROSION BY WATER
• Landforms are created by erosion.
• Materials of weathering are carried away by
flowing bodies of water.
• Deltas, sand bars, beaches and other landforms
are form.
EROSION ON LANDSLOPE
• During heavy rains the dirt and loose materials
on the mountainsides can easily be washed
away into the valleys or lower land.
• MUDFLOW – rainwater and loose materials
mix and form mud that may move along the
valley floors.
• LANDSLIDE - a mass of rock on earth or rocks
that slide down a slope. There are condition
necessary for landslide: a steep slope and
weakness in the solid rocks beneath the
surface of the slope.
• Many of the valleys are formed when erosion
occurs on slopes. Most valleys on dry land are
formed by the running water of streams and
rivers and by erosion of slopes leading to them.
AGENTS OF SOIL EROSION
1. People
2. Animals
3. Wind
4. Water
WHAT IS QUARRYING
• It is the method of mining a deposit
that lies at the surface of the earth
EROSION BY GLACIERS
• Has a V shaped and
leveled large areas.
Today glaciers cover all
of the antartica and most
of Greenland
