Recognition – why is it important? Because
studies say that:
50% of employees believe increased recognition
would reduce voluntary turnover
40% of employees who don’t feel meaningfully
recognized will not go above their formal
responsibilities
Junior needs
• Junior staff-feedback from manager/ partner-
>good job, well done mails/verbally
• Discussions with management where junior
staff’s opinion’s are taken into consideration or if
not adequate, explained why
• The need of being part of a team / larger group
• Surprisingly, money is not a key motivational
factor
• Time off
Solutions
• Give timely feedback on good tasks performed
or for tasks performed above their level
• Positive review notes – should be adopted by
all reviewers and provide a timely feedback
• Do not mix recognition with criticism
• Do not exclude junior staff from group
activities, varying from planning meeting /
client conf calls up to going out for relaxing
• One-hour off cards 
Senior staff needs
• Job security and appreciation
Solutions
• Early announcement of promotions – June / July, would increase
retention rate among senior employees, would give time to adjust
after resignation of unhappy employees with their promotions
• Recognition of seniority in the company – employment anniversary
gift / thank card
• Recognize strengths / passions (applicable in our work) and allocate
tasks / projects / out of the box projects that play to their strengths
• Gamification / “loyalty points” ?????
• Team awards after hard reporting
• Reduce pressure on teams by alternating from planning phase
difficult clients with more straight forward ones (simple clients, with
less issues, clean pbcs)
• Targeted rewards (a football fan might appreciate more tickets to
his team game than the monetary equivalent paid in cash, makeup
fan – a well known makeup kit, gaming fan – latest game, etc)
