Digital Image: Introduction and data

format
Remote sensing is the science and art to acquisition
of information about and object without being
contact with them.
The analysis remotely sensed data is
performed using variety of image
processing techniques-

*Analog Image Processing

*Digital Image Processing

*
* To improve image quality
* To extract hidden information
* Scientifically image processing
* To prepare corrected image for post analysis

*
* A digital remotely sensed image is typically
composed of picture elements (pixels) located at
the intersection of each row i and column j in each
K bands of imagery.
* Associated with each pixel is a number known as
Digital Number (DN) or Brightness Value (BV),
that depicts the average radiance of a relatively
small area within a scene

*
* In another word, diagram consist of proportional
frequency of variables called histogram
* The histogram is a useful graphic representation
of the information content of a remotely sensed
image

*
* It is instructive to review how a histogram of a
single band of imagery, k, composed of i rows
and j columns with a brightness value BVijk at
each pixel location is constructed.

*
* The analyst must know remote sensed data are
stored in which format
* Before going to image processing user must
understand about digital data formats
* Three type
-Band Interlinked by Pixel (BIP)
-Band Interlinked by Line (BIL)
-Band Sequential format (BSQ)

*
* BIP
-one of the earliest digital format
-continuously storing data to pixel by pixel
-all information sored in single file
-can not do perticular band analysis
-it will carry unwanted bands
* BIL
-BIL is used widely
-instead of pixel it takes entire line at all band
-But it also carry unwanted bands
* BSQ
-each and every band stored separately
-BSQ format used in satellite data reception
- user can use particular band
-if user wants pixel by pixel information then it will
difficult
