PRAYER IN PUBLIC

SCHOOLS
Anna Grace Courson
Thesis Statement
Prayer in public schools should be
allowed because our government has
been based on religious principles since
the beginning of our nation.
Why I Picked Prayer Should Be In Public
Schools
I picked prayer should be in public schools because I
wanted to see all what happened and why public schools
aren’t allowed to publicly pray anymore. Also, I wanted
to pick this topic because I felt that someone needed to
hear my opinion about prayer not being allowed to be
used in public schools publicly.
Reasons Why Prayer Should Be Allowed In
Public Schools
◦ Prayer in public schools should be allowed because our government has been based
on religious principles since the very beginning.
◦ Since the nation outlawed prayer it has been in gradual moral decline.
◦ It would let the students exercise their freedoms of speech and religion.
◦ Public schools had prayer for almost 200 years before the Supreme Court ruled that
state-mandated class prayers were unconstitutional.
Problems Known For No Prayer
◦ Increase in drug use
◦ School shootings
◦ Alcohol use
◦ More and more pregnant teenagers
◦ Suicidal teenagers
◦ Child abuse
◦ Abortion
Results Of Removing Prayer
From Schools
◦Teen pregnancy increased 200%
◦Teen suicide increased 300%
◦Violent crime increased 500%
◦Abortion increased 1000%
◦Divorce doubled
◦Child abuse reached all-time high
There is a strong correlation between
the expulsion of prayer from our
schools and the decline in morality.
Public schools should do more than
train students’ minds academically.
Students should be taught morals, and
prayer can help teach these morals.
Additional Reasons Why Public
Schools Should Have Prayer

◦ Most likely to decrease bullying

◦Freedom of speech
◦Stronger relationship with others
Most Important Reason Why Prayer
Is So Important
Prayer is so important because it is
our way as the children of God to
talk to Him.
Why Freedom Of Speech Is So
Important
Freedom of speech is so important because we were granted
certain freedoms such as freedom of speech and freedom of
religion. If we were given these freedoms then why are
teachers not allowed to practice their freedoms in public
schools? We moved to the Land of the Free(America) so we
could live freely.
In Conclusion
◦I think that public school teachers and students
should be allowed to pray on school campus
because we should be able to have freedom in
something so important.
