System
What is it?
 Is the set of organs that
have living beings in order
to exchange gases with
the environment.
Function
 Supplies oxygen (O2) to cells
 Removes carbon dioxide
 Defending the body against invasion of microorganisms
 Formation of ATP for energy
Process…
 Breathing is done through two
processes:
 Inhalation: is the process of
bringing air to the lungs. We
take air for the lungs.
 Exhalation: is the process of
pushing the air out of the lungs.
We expel the air from the lungs.
Parts of the respiratory system.

 The human respiratory


system consists of the
nasal cavity, the oral
cavity, the nostrils, the
mouth, the pharynx, the
epiglottis, the larynx, the
trachea, the two bronchi
and the two lungs. The
right lung has three lobes
and the left lung two. Each
pulmonary lobe presents
hundreds of secondary
lobes or lobules.

Diseases of the respiratory system

 Respiratory insufficiency.
 Bronchial asthma.
 Pulmonary edema.
 Lung infarction.
 Infectious diseases.
 Virics The main ones are the cold and the flu.
 Bacterial.sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis,
laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia or pneumonia
