BED & BEDING

Beds, mattresses, and bedding are an essential


part of hotel accommodation. Beds and mattress
are of great importance for sleeping in comfort.
The term bedding may be applied to all the bed
cloths place on the bed, such as blanket, quilts
and eiderdowns, pillows and all other bed linen,
such as sheets and bedspread.

HOTELS ,HEADBOARDS ARE NOT PART OF THE
BEDS. THEY ARE TYPICALLY MOUNTED ON THE
WALLS BEHIND THE BEDS AND NOT ON THE
FRAMES.
• FOOTBOARD:-USUALLY MADE OF WOOD OR
METAL AND LOWER IS HEIGHT THAN THE
HEADBOARD.

BASE SPRINGS
1-BOX SPRING:-THE COILS FOR THESE ARE MADE OF
HEAVY GAUGE STEEL. BOX SPRING ARE MOUNTED
ON A WOOD FRAME AND COVERED WITH A PAD.
2-METAL-COIL SPRINGS:-THERE MAY BE ARRANGE
IN TWO LAYERS. THE SPRINGS ARE LOOSELY
COILED FOR RESILIENCE

BASE SPRINGS
3-FLAT BED SPRINGS:-THESE ARE STRIPS OF METAL
ATTACHED LENGTHWISE TO A FRAME WITH
HELICAL HOOK. THESE HOOKS ARE SMALL COILS
WITH HOOKS AT BOTH ENDS.
4STRETCHED SPRINGS:-THESE ARE IN THE FORM
OF HIGHLY COILED SPRINGS ATTACHED TO THE
FRAME ON ONE SIDE AND RESILIENT THICK
METAL WIRES ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Material of mattresses
• Many mattresses are produced from polyvinyl
chloride covered with cotton or polyester layers.
• Organic wool, organic cotton and pure latex are
used to make natural mattresses.
• Because of fire, dust and mold resistance
organic wool is excellent choice.
• Natural latex is a new product in bedding
industry. Latex is resistant to bacteria, dust and
mold. Latex covered with wool is fire resident.

AIRBED An airbed uses an air-inflated
mattress(es), sometimes connected to an electric
air pump and having variable, firmness controls.
The portable version of an air bed can also be
rolled up and packed, so is meant for travel or
temporary guest use.

The best and the most expensive pillows are
filled with down. Other have a mixture of
down and feathers and some are filled with
man made fiber. Form pillow are suitable for
people allergic to dust and feather

These are available in different sizes to fit all the
standard bed. Wool blankets are soft, warm and
wear well they should be treated with moth-
resistant finishes cotton blankets give less warm
but are easy to wash and ideal for children's
cost.

TERMAL INSULATOR. THE CHOICE OF COLOUR
QUILTS VARIES FROM HOTEL TO HOTEL. THERE
SHOULD BE A COVER (WHITE) OVER THE
QUILTS.

EXTRA BEDS

CARE AND CLEANING OF BEDS:

SPRINGS PERIODICLLY AND WIPE WITH AN OILY
RAG.
• CHECK FOR LOOSE HEADBOARDS AND
FOOTBOARDS REGULARLY. REMOVE DUST, DIRT
BY USING SOFT BRUSH OR VACCUM CLEANER
WITH AN UPHOLSTERY ATTACHMENT.
