MEAN
• Mean is also called “AVERAGE”
• Formula :
• Mean = Sum of all data values
Number of Data
Example
1. 3, 5, 7, 9 , 8 , 5 , 9 , 5
Solution : so, the number of data is 5
3 + 5 + 7 + 9 + 8 + 5 + 9 + 5 = 10,2
5
2. Value (N) Frequency ( F ) N.F
5 6 30
6 3 18
7 2 14
8 5 40
9 4 36
20 138

Mean = ∑ N. F = 138 = 6.9

∑F 20
MODUS
• Mode = value which occures most often
Or
• Mode = value with the highest frequency
of occurrence.
Example
1. Find the mode each of the following data
a. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 6, 6, 5
b. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 4, 3, 4, 1
solution :
a. The most frequent value is 6. Mode = 6
b. The most frequent value is 4. Mode = 4
2.
Score Frequency
60 5
70 4
80 5
90 9
100 2

So, the most frequent value is 90. Mode = 90

MEDIAN
• Median = middle value of an ordered list
of data
• Median in the middle  odd
• Median is the average of two middle
values  even
Example
1. Find the median of the following data
sets.
a. 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9.

median

median= 7
b. 6 6 7 7 8 8 9 10.

median

median= 7 + 8 = 7,5
2
SCORE 60 70 80 90 100

FREQUENCY 2 3 1 4 2

a. Make an ordered list of the scores

b. Find the median of the list
solution
a. 60 60 60 70 70 80 90 90 90 90
100 100

median

b. median= 80 + 90 = 85
