• Max volume= 1200 ml
• Deliver 100% O2 by attaching to O2 source
B) Assemble and connect the equipment
C) Demonstrate how to bag-mask ventilate the
patient
PROCEDURE MARKS
1 Check that all necessary equipment are available 1
(oxygen, ambu bag, oral airways, suction stethoscope)
2 Aseptic precaution (wash hands, wear gloves) 1
3 Choose appropriate sized mask 1
• Does not cover patient’s eyes
• Lower portion rest between lower lip & chin

Facial landmarks that need to be covered:


• Bridge of the nose
• 2 malar eminence
• Mandibular alveolar ridge

4 Check patient’s mouth for any foreign materials or ill 1
fitting dentures
5 Head tilt, chin lift (sniffing position) 1

6 ONE-HANDED TECHNIQUE 1
• Proper hand placement: thumb and index finger on body of
mask, 3rd and 4th digits on jawbone, 5th digit at the angle
of the jaw
• Little or no pressure to the sub-mandibular soft tissue
7 TWO-HANDED TECHNIQUE 1

8 Squeeze the bag 1
10-12 breath/min

9 • Look for chest rise


• listen for breath sounds 2
• check for CO2 trace if inline capnography available.
• Listen for air leak around the mask and adjust for good seal
as necessary.

If chest is not rising consider need for jaw thrust and/or


oral/nasal airway” (can state, does not need to do).

E) Contraindications
• Complete airway obstruction
• Deforming facial trauma

will be discharge tomorrow
