A 60 YEARS LEGACY
In 1953, T.M.A. Pai founded India's first private medical school, Kasturba Medical College,
and five years later the Manipal Institute of Technology was formed. The University has
off-campuses in Mangalore and Bangalore, and off-shore campuses in Dubai(UAE) and
Melaka (Malaysia). The Mangalore campus offers medical, dental, and nursing programs.
The Bangalore Campus offers programs in Regenerative Medicine. The Dubai campus
offers programs in engineering, management and architecture, and the Melaka campus
offers programs in medicine and dentistry.

 Growth and Expansion
•1961-1999
1961 - Full undergraduate programs were available in the areas of Mechanical Engineering,
Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

1965 - The institute got affiliated to University of Mysore. More courses were added over
the decades as the college expanded.

1969 - Chemical Engineering was introduced as a branch of study followed by Electronics

and Communication engineering.

1973 - The semester scheme was adopted and a one-year postgraduate diploma in
industrial engineering was offered.

1974 - The Manipal Engineering College is renamed as Manipal Institute of Technology

(MIT).

1979 - Other branches of study such as Industrial Production and Architecture were
introduced.

1993 - Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) was granted deemed university status
and Manipal Institute of Technology became its constituent college.
• 2000 – 2016

• 2006 - Undergraduate Courses in Mechatronics were added and those in Aeronautical

Engineering, Automobile Engineering were added in 2008.

• 2011 - Manipal School of Architecture and Planning and Design, as a separate institute
under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

• 2016 - The new logo of the institute was unveiled by alumni Nokia CEO Rajiv Suri during
the institute's 2016 convocation.
