- Tear gas was brought into WWI in 1914 by the French.
- These were non-fatal gases used to irritate the eyes.
 Grenades were filled with the tear gas (ethyl bromoacetate)
- Ethyl Bromoacetate is also known as CH2BrCO2C2H5
