● People believed running hills would damage the athlete’s heart
● More knowledge about the human body nowadays and athletes have
coaches and nutrition specialists
Health and Nutrition
● Stretching and strength training are important parts of physical exercise
● Stretching loosens muscles, improves flexibility and prevents injuries
● When stretching, the muscles and joints are moved
● Engaging in exercise with tight muscles can cause injury
● Use the ten percent rule to increase mileage when running
● Different types of food are used for different bodily functions
● Olympic runners need between 5,000 and 8,000 calories for exercise

● The oldest person to run a marathon was Fauja Singh at 100 years old.
● The fastest woman alive is considered to be Carmelita Jeter who ran the
100m in 10.64 seconds (The fastest woman of all time is Frances Griffith-
Joyner who ran the 100m in 10.49 seconds)
● Louie’s fastest time for the 5000 time would not even qualify him for the
olympic trials today
