SERVICE ORIENTED ARCHITECTURE(SOA)
• A service-oriented architecture (SOA) is the underlying
structure supporting communications between services. SOA
defines how two computing entities, such as programs,
interact in such a way as to enable one entity to perform a
unit of work on behalf of another entity.
• Each interaction is self-contained and loosely coupled, so that
each interaction is independent of any other interaction.
• The most important aspect of service-oriented architecture is
that it separates the service’s implementation from its
interface.
• In other words, it separates the “what” from the “how.”

INTELLIGENCE MIS
• Discrete manufacturing shop floor information and
control flow management is still a challenging task
due to the heterogeneity of data structures and
information systems.
• The objective of vertical integration from high level
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to the machine
level is still unrivalled.
• Internet based manufacturing and SOA are the
answers for full process integration of control.

Manufacturing Domain Information
Architecture
• Enterprise Architecture (EA) research resulted in a number
of elaborated architecture proposals with a more general
scope: GERAM, PERA and manufacturing specific CIMOSA.

• All these modeling techniques lacked STANDARDIZATION.

• Proposals for BPM at the implementation level leveraging

enterprise application integration, are promising, but……..

Model Driven Service Architecture for the Shop
Floor

Objective:
To bring together domain dimensions of BUSINESS,
ARCHITECTURE and APPLICATION with their own
modeling concepts. The end result would be a
platform independent model to be converted into
a platform specific model.

Goal of SODA
• Shop floor tool box (SFTB)

• Particular shop floor model( PSFM)

• PSFM support long term platform

• Redesign of service flow definition

• Valuable knowledge base
