Homeostasis…….?
Subtopics:
1 Definition of Homeostasis

2 Homeostasis in Human

3 Homeostasis in Animal

4 Homeostasis in Plants
1) Definition of Homeostasis

• maintenance of the body system to keep our body in a balance

condition, for example the body temperature and water content

• Example: - Temperature
- Water
- Blood Pressure
- Blood Glucose
2) Homeostasis in Human

i) Regulation of Water Content

ii) Regulation of Body Temperature

iii) Pulse Rate

i) Regulation of Water Content

When water content increase, brain will detect

Brain stimulate secretion of hormone to kidney

Kidney absorb more water from blood

Urine more

Water content decrease

ii) Regulation of Temperature

When body Blood vessel dilate, more heat

temperature released
increase
(rises above 37˚C) Hairs lie flat to trap less air

Increase sweating to cool the body

Activity of muscle decrease

When body Blood vessel constrict, less heat
temperature released
decrease
(falls below 37˚C) Hairs lie flat to trap more
air

Shivering to generate body heat

iii) Pulse Rate

• Increase when doing heavy task

 because the heart need to pump the blood to all parts of the
body
3) Homeostasis in Animals

 Cat licks the fur to reduce body temperature

 Dog hang tongue, so that temperature decrease

 Snail lost a lot of water through skin, so it lives in humid places

and produces fluid
