Report
• The Great Barrier Reef has many icons that make it Unique to Australia. In
1975, it was officially appointed a Marine Park, which provides protection
and care for that particular area of land in which The Great Barrier Reef is
located in. With many different animal species, which habitat in the Park,
Marine Park authorities have huge responsibilities, to protect the homes of
many of the endangered species and other living organisms, such as the
corals, fish, molluscs, and seaweeds. The Great Barrier Reef is the biggest
single structure in the world made by ONLY living organisms, it is also the
only organic structure visible from the earths orbit. It is a very popular
tourist attraction for many, as diving, snorkelling and exploring the
wonderful waters, can be an awesome experience while enjoying the
beautiful scenery. It was in such a perfect condition, that it was officially
added to The World Heritage List in 2007, so it can be preserved for many
generations to come.
• The Blue Mountains has many icons that make it Unique to
Australia. Bushland plays a massive role in why parts of The Blue
Mountains are on the World Heritage List. Bushland shows visual
identity of what the Blue Mountains is all about. Most
importantly, Bushlands and Forests in The Blue Mountains, help
physical elements in the environment, such as Land Degradation
and also helping reduce soil erosion. It also helps keep water fresh
in certain rivers, creeks and lakes while preserving longer
freshment in the catchment areas. Most importantly, Bushland
provides the home for many animals while conserving
endangered flora and fauna. Wollemi Pine is found in areas of the
Blue Mountains in Wollemi National Park. In 2000 it was listed on
the Worlds Heritage List, showing how rare and important natural
vegetation and animal species in the Blue Mountains are, while
preserving the natural environment for generations to come.
• Uluru (Ayres Rock) has many features that make it Unique to
Australia, most importantly, Uluru is the world’s largest monolith (A
single great stone). Over all there have been around 50 recognised
species of mammals living in or around the rock but only 21 are
known to be non-extinct. Uluru is sacred to the Aboriginal people of
today, because of certain waterholes, springs and
ancient/traditional paintings that they want to be preserved for the
generations ahead. In the Park Uluru is located in “ Katu Tjuta
National Park”, there are many spectacular rock formations and
famous scenery which cannot be seen unless you are there. At
sunset, the rock itself changes colour, with crimsons turning to rusts
and pinks turning to mauves. When touring, you will be taught
Aboriginal techniques and traditions aswell as being told dreamtime
stories on how the rock was formed. Uluru is one of Australia’s
major icons and is on The World Heritage list being carefully
preserved for many generations to come.
