• Worldwide, the number of air passengers carried in 2014 was around 3.2 billion, an increase of
63.1 % compared with 2005. The United States had 762.6 million passengers (23.7 % of the world
total) and China had 352.8 million (12.2 %).

• The United States of America is the top country by passengers carried by air transport in the world.
As of 2016, passengers carried by air transport in the United States of America was 822 million that
accounts for 22.26 % of the world's passengers carried by air transport. The top 5 countries (others
are China, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany) account for 46.17 % of it. The world's total
passengers carried by air transport was estimated at 3,696 million in 2016.

of it. The world's total air transport freight was estimated at 195,162 million ton-km in 2016.
