Oil
• Oil is a thick, black, gooey liquid also called petroleum. It's found way down
in the ground, usually between layers of rock.
• Oil is the world’s primary fuel source for transportation. Most oil is pumped
out of underground reservoirs.
Oil
• Once extracted, crude oil is processed in oil refineries to create
• fuel oil
• Gasoline
• liquefied petroleum gas
• other nonfuel products such as pesticides, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals,
and plastics.
• It's also burned in factories and power plants to make electricity.
Natural gas
• It is formed when layers of decomposing plant and animal matter are
exposed to intense heat and pressure under the surface of the Earth over
millions of years. The energy that the plants originally obtained from the
sun is stored in the form of chemical bonds in the gas.
• Natural gas was first used by the Chinese. They discovered a way to
transport gas seeping from the ground in crude pipelines of bamboo to
where it was used to boil salt water to extract the salt. The world's first
industrial extraction of natural gas started at Fredonia, New York, United
States, in 1825.
Natural gas
• Companies drill for natural gas the same
way they do for oil. Natural gas is highly
flammable.
• Gas stoves cook food with a lower flame. In
the United States, and probably other
countries, the house’s heating system and
water heater may use natural gas. Natural
gas is also used in power plants to create
electricity.
PROBLEMATIC OF USAGE OF FOSSIL
FUELS
1. Fossil fuels supplies are low. We
can finish all the supplies at this
step in 40 to 70 years.
2. Fossil fuels are expensive. Few
contries dominate the market of
fossil fuels.
3. Burning fossil fuels harms the
Earth.
