 Capital punishment, also known as the death
penalty, is a government sanctioned practice
whereby a person is put to death by the state as
a punishment for a crime.
 Deterrence of crime : Studies regarding death
penalty shows that it has lead to deterrence of
crime and recent investigation using various
samples and statistical method demonstrate a
strong link between execution and reduced
murder rate, in short capital punishment in fact
does save lives.
 Retribution : ‘let the punishment fit for crime.’
Retribution must be limited and proportional
and approximately directed, only those should
be executed who are the most deserving.
Refination of death penalty statutes and review
of the sentances of every one on death now and
releasing into general public.
 Irrevocable mistakes : there is death penalty in
order to reform justice. The people who oppose
death penalty can be held agreeable but only
for the innocent those who already have
committed such a heinous crime such as a case
of Bachan Singh vs. State of Punjab (1980).
 Closure for victims family : whatever feelings
we hold for the person who is going through
capital punishment it is important to consider
the feelings of family the amount of pain and
torture what one’s family goes through.
Thank you !
