The Western Roman Empire was

invaded by barbarians and
disappeared in 476 A.D., considered
as the start of the Middle Ages. The
territory was split up in several
kingdoms (a patchwork of kingdoms)
: Franks,Visigoths, Ostrogods, Angles
and Saxons.
