TELE-IMMERSION

 Tele-immersion technology is based on multiple

stereoscopic viewing in different geographic
locations.

 Tele-immersion is aimed to enable users in

geographically distributed sites to collaborate in
real time in a shared simulated environment as if
they were in the same physical room.

Requirements of Persistent Tele-
Immersion

The requirements to support persistent Tele-

Immersion may be viewed at three levels:

 the end user level,

 the application developer level

 the core technology developer level

End user issues

 Communication in a Tele-Immersive environment

 Synchronous and asynchronous collaboration in the

environment

 Recordability

 Collaborative interaction and manipulation

 Connectivity with external computational and database

resources
Application Developer Issues

 Modules for audio and video compression

 Modules for the rapid construction of a variety of
networking topologies and protocols
 Control of Quality of Service (QoS).
 Connection scalability
 Data scalability
 Imbedded capabilities for performance monitoring
 A high-level interface
 High-level modules containing pre-built environments
Core development issues

The software and hardware infrastructure to support the

expected patterns of resource access in Tele-
Immersion. The patterns for networking and databases
for a variety of Tele-Immersion data :
 Raw data
 Derived data
 Avatar data
 Virtual world state/meta data
 3D models
 video conferencing data

CAVE - CAVE Automated
Virtual Environment

The CAVE-VR system is a

10 × 10 sq. ft. room .
It consists of:
 CRT projectors
 lightweight liquid crystal
shutter glasses
 a three-button pressure
sensitive wand
 An electromagnetic
tracking system
ImmersaDesk

 These are smaller,drafting

table like systems.
ImmersaDesk is designed
for displaying images that fit
on a desktop.
 The ImmersaDesk3 is an
ImmersaDesk built from a
42-inch plasma screen
mounted on a
 conventional office desk.
PARIS-Personal Augmented Reality
Immersive System

 It is a desktop device
that is placed around an
office desk.
 User places his hands
under a semi-
transparent mirror
 Cameras are placed
under the mirrors
AccessBot

 It is a teleconferencing
device
 It contains a pan-tilt-
zoom camera
 AccessBot gives the
remote user an equal
presence with local
meeting participants.

Software Framework-

 CAVERNsoft software
framework is used to
build tele-immersive
applications
Tele-immersion for business
environments
 It will ensure the better
level of communication
between the business
people when there offices
are separated by huge
distances.
 It will enhance productivity
and improve decision
making process .
 Virtual stores are also
being opened where
people can checkout
products .
Biomedical modeling in Tele-
immersion

 With tele-immersion,
3D surgical training for
virtual operations is
now in place and in
future
 A geographically distant
surgeon could be tele-
immersed into an
operation theatre to
perform an operation.
Multi-site collaboration in 3D tele-
immersive environments
 Distant users are able to
immerse into a shared
virtual space such that
they have a strong sense
of shared presence
 A multi-layer framework
and multi-stream/ multi-
site data dissemination
protocol enables users at
multiple sites to participate
in tele-immersive session
simultaneously at
interactive rate.
