• This little book was published in Urdu in India, where also anEnglish translation was issued.
• In the preparation of this translation we have beenfortunate in having the co-
operation of the Sadhu himself, andin concert with him certain alterations have been made with avi
ew to remove obscurities and give added point and clearnesswherever possible. While striving to pr
ovide a carefultranslation, a certain freedom of expression has been made useof wherever necessar
y, at the same time care has been takento preserve the true spirit and meaning of the original.
• To those who, like ourselves, have had the good fortune tosee the Sadhu at his work in India, the w
hole atmosphere ofthe book is familiar. In true Oriental fashion one has seen himseated on the gro
und in the midst of a large number of eagerinquirers of both sexes and all classes. His bearing on su
choccasions one can never forget. His simplicity and plaincommon sense often lay open the very he
art of a spiritualproblem, and his quiet humour raises an occasional ripple ofamusement, which aga
in subsides into a feeling of reverenceas the deeper significance of his answers makes itself felt.
