FORCE AND MATTER

Force acting on solids

 Force can change the size and shape of an object.

They can strech, squash, bend, or twist it.

 Stretching springs
Length of stretched spring = original length +
extention
Hooke’s law

 The mathematical pattern of streching spring was

first described by the english scientist Robert Hooke.
 F = k.X
 F = Force
 K = spring constant
 X = spring extension
Pressure

 Pressure is a force per unit area acting on surface

 P = F/A
 P = Pressure
 F = Force
 A = Area
 If you dive into a swimming pool, you will experience
the pressure of the water on you
 This pressure comes about because any object under
water is being pressed down on by weight of water
above it.
 So the curve and thick material was design to
withstand very great pressure
Pressure measurements
Pressure, depth, density

P = ρ.g.h
 P = pressure
 ρ = Density
 g = gravity
 h = depth
ρ = m/V
m = mass
V = Volume
