Labour Welfare Funds • In order to provide social security to workers in the unorganized sector and improve their working conditions / standard of living, government has introduced Labour Welfare Fund. • The purpose of these welfare funds is to make available housing, medical care, and educational and recreational facilities to workers. Sources of Labour Welfare Funds • Beedi workers welfare cess act, 1976 • The cine workers welfare cess act, 1981 • The iron ore, manganese ore & Chrome ore mines labour welfare cess Act,1976 • The limestone and mines labour welfare fund act, 1972 • Mica Mines labour welfare fund act, 1946 Assistance provided under Labour welfare fund schemes • Public health and sanitation • Housing • Recreation (including standard of living) • Social security • Educational facilities • Water supply • Transportation • Medical facilities • Social security • Family welfare Worker`s Education Scheme • Under Plantations Labour Act, 1951, every employer should provide educational facilities. • The Central Board for Workers Education (CBWE) was established on 16 Septembet, 1958 and was registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860. • There are five Zonal Directorates at Delhi, Guwahati, kolkata, Mumbau and Chennai to Monitor and Supervise the training activities of the Regional Directorates in their respective Zones.
