GLASS FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE

GLASS FIBER

• A glass fiber is a chemically inorganic fiber obtained from

molten glass of a specific composition.
• High bending, pulling and pressure resistance, high
temperature resistance and low hydroscopy against chemical
and biological influences, comparatively low density.
• Glass fibre products have excellent electronic heat and sound
insulation capacity.
GLASS FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE

• GFRC is actually cement mortar with countless strands of

embedded glass fiber.
• GFRC has a dramatically reduced ballistic debris profile.
• Fibers are the principal load-carrying members.

TYPES OF GLASS FIBRES

• A-glass (close to normal glass).
• C-glass (resist chemical attacks).
• E-glass (insulation to electricity).
• AE-glass (alkali resistance).
• S-glass (high strength fiber)
PROPERTIES OF GFRC

• A high tensile strength(1700 N/mm^2)

• High modulus.
• Impact Resistance.
• Shear strength.
• Water resistant.
• Thermal conductivity.
• Low thermal expansion.
• Less creep with increase
in time.
• Light weight and Low density.
• Resistance to corrosion and Fire endurance.
• Resistance to cracks in concrete
ADVANTAGES OF GFRC

• GRC was developed as a corrosion free alternative to

traditional steel reinforced concrete.
• GRC can be moulded into any complex shape, profiles and
architectural components.
• Main advantage over precast concrete is one can have very
light structures resulting in savings in the costs of
transportation,handling and erection of panels.
• Light weight design(both low and high rise superstructures)
helps both in economic savings and also effect the sustainable
environment.
• GRC is durable,seismic capable,chemical resistant ,non
combustible and good sound and heat insulator.
