Before you begin creating your
sentence outline, you should be clear
about the following:
1. Determine the purpose of your paper.
2. Determine the audience you are writing for.
3. Develop the thesis of your paper.

What is a thesis statement?
– A thesis statement tells the reader how you will interpret the
significance of the subject matter under discussion.
– is a road map for the paper; in other words, it tells the reader
what to expect from the rest of the paper.
– directly answers the question asked of you is usually a single
sentence near the beginning of your paper (most often, at the
end of the first paragraph) that presents your argument to the
reader. The rest of the paper, the body of the essay, gathers
and organizes evidence that will persuade the reader of the
logic of your interpretation.
– Place your introduction and thesis statement at the beginning,
under roman numeral I.
– Use roman numerals (II, III, IV, V, etc.) to identify main points that
develop the thesis statement.
– Use capital letters (A, B, C, D, etc.) to divide your main points into
parts.
– Use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.) if you need to subdivide any
As, Bs, or Cs into smaller parts.
– End with the final roman numeral expressing your idea for your
conclusion.
