Electric circuits

 Any path along which electrons can flow is a circuit.

 For a continuous flow of electrons, there must be a
complete circuit with no gaps.
 A gap is usually provided by an electric switch that can be
opened or closed to either cut off or allow electron flow.
Kinds

Kinds of circuits
 Most circuits have more than one device that receives
electrical energy.
 These devices are connected in a circuit in one of two ways,
series or parallel.
Series Circuits

 When electric devices are connected in series, they

form a single pathway for electron flow between the
terminals of the battery or generator.
Equivalent resistance in series
circuits
 Find the eqivalent resistance and total current in the
circuit
Parallel Circuits

 Electric devices connected in parallel are connected to

the same two points of an electric circuit.
Equivalent resistance in parallel
circuits
 Find the equivalent resistance and total current in the
circuit

3Ω 10Ω 5Ω
Find the eqivalent resistance and total current in the
circuit.
