Example

Example
• Determine the heat flow rate Q through a
copper spherical shell [ k = 386 W/m-oC] of
inner radius 2 cm and outer radius 6 cm, if the
inner surface is kept at 200oC and outer
surface at 100oC.
• Ans: Q = 14.55 KW
Example 2
• Consider an aluminum hollow sphere [k= 200 w/m-oC]of
inside radius 2cm and outside radius of 6cm. The inside
surface is kept at a uniform temperature of 100oC, and the
outside surface dissipates heat by convection with a heat
transfer coefficient of 80 W/m2 into ambient air at 20oC.
Determine the outside surface temperature of the sphere and
the rate of heat flow from the sphere by using thermal
resistance concept.
• Ans: Q = 276.3 W , T2 = 96.3 oC
