Procedures

Distribute an
outline of a
map of the
Western
Regions of the
United States
with only the
state names
on it to all the
students.
Procedures continued..
 Ask them to label on the map all the capitals they are
familiar with and how they came to know them
 As a class discuss the capitals of the Western Region
and their location on the maps.
 Assign students in groups of three to help each other
come up with concepts to understanding the capitals
location.
 Have a full day of review in small groups and as the
entire class.
 Towards the end of the day hand out a blank map of
the Western Regions with only the state names on it and
have the students in their groups label the capitals.
Evaluation

Check for
accuracy that
all the
Western
Region states
are labeled
correctly with
their proper
capital
