Conjunction and Commas
• Separate the independent clauses with
a comma and a COORDINATING
conjunction.
Example:

Semicolon
• A semicolon is used to separate two
complete sentences (or two
independent clauses, right?)
Example:
Ms. Zeins likes to run; she ran in the
marathon on Saturday
Semicolon cont.
• Semicolons are sometimes used with
CONJUNCTIVE adverbs.
Example:
Ms. Zeins likes to run; therefore, she ran
in the marathon on Saturday.
Separate!
• Break apart the run on sentences into
individual sentences.

1Maryland’s official state animal is its own breed of dog, the


Chesapeake Bay retriever. 2The breed, America’s only native hunting
