Qn: Obtain the current IT for the circuit below:

IT 3Ω

25 V

4Ω 4Ω

(A) 2 A (B) 15 A (C) 5 A (D) 10 A

Ans: In the given circuit, the 2Ω & 4Ω resistors are in series.

Req1 = 2 Ω+4 Ω = 6 Ω

The two 4Ω resistors are in parallel.

Req2 = (4 Ωx4 Ω) / (4 Ω+4 Ω ) = 2 Ω and this is in series with 4Ω resistor.
Req3 = 2 Ω+4 Ω = 6 Ω

The 6Ω & 3Ω resistors are in parallel.

Req4 = (6 Ωx3 Ω) / (6 Ω+3 Ω ) = 2 Ω
The equivalent circuit becomes

IT

25 V 6Ω

The two 6Ω resistors are in parallel.

ReqP = (6 Ωx6 Ω) / (6 Ω+6 Ω ) = 3 Ω and this is in series with 2Ω resistor.

Reqs = 2 Ω+3 Ω = 5 Ω = Rtotal.

The current IT = V / R total

= 25 / 5

= 5 A Ans
