 Introduction
 Principle
 Construction and working
 Advantages and disadvantages
 Conclusion
 Cellular manufacturing is a process of manufacturing which is a subsection
of just-in-time manufacturing and lean manufacturing encompassing group
technology
 cellular manufacturing is to move as quickly as possible, make a wide variety
of similar products, while making as little waste as possible
 Cellular manufacturing involves the use of multiple "cells" in an assembly line
fashion Each of these cells is composed of one or multiple different machines
which accomplish a certain task
 Cellular manufacturing considerably reduces total manufacturing cost, time
and area of manufacturing industries. Manufacturing industries who adopt
cellular manufacturing get improvement in profit, productivity and
production quality. Cellular manufacturing also helps manufacturers in
defeating their competitors in global business scenario. If manufactures
implement cellular manufacturing system in their manufacturing industries
then they can fully satisfy their customers by selling high quality products
quickly in reasonable price
 Cellular manufacturing uses the principle of group technology by grouping parts with
similar characteristics into part-families and corresponding machines into machine cells
in order to achieve higher production efficiency compared to traditional manufacturing.
Cellular manufacturing is an integral part of lean manufacturing
 Some common formats of single cells are: the U-shape (good for
communication and quick movement of workers)
 The straight line, or The L-shape
 First the components are divided into part
families.
 Part families are nothing but a collection of
parts that possess similarities in geometric
shape and size or in processing steps used in
their manufacturing.
 Then these part families are send to the cells.
 The cells are designed to perform one or
more than one operation according to layout .
 And sent the component to next cell or
assembly line .
 Reduction in work in process
 Reduced set up time
 Reduction in material handeling cost
 Reduction in material flow distance
 Improvement in machine utilization
 Improvement in quality
 Increase in profit
 Rush order can be produced without much problem
 Multiple operations get donr in single cell
 When new products manufacturing are required , if
they do not fit into existing cell then whole
manufacturing setup needs to be restructured
 When single machine is failure in cell , then whole
cell is failure to perfom the given task.
 To implement cellular layout cost required is high
 Need to train workers for proper co-ordination
with machines in cell .
 Machines always needs to be inspected
 Automobile industries
 Electronics industries
 Footwear industries
 Kitchen equipment industries
 Aerospace industries
 Foundries
 Clothing industries
 Food and bever
 Cellular manufacturing considerably reduces total
manufacturing cost, time and area of manufacturing
industries.
 Manufacturing industries who adopt cellular manufacturing
get improvement in profit, productivity and production
quality.
 If we implement cellular manufacturing system in a
manufacturing industries then we can fully satisfy
customers by selling high quality products quickly in
reasonable price.
