Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana was


started by prime minister Narendra Modi on
22nd January 2015 from Panipat district in
Haryana
WHY THIS POLICY?

The child sex ratio(CSR) which is the number of girls


per 1000 boys between 0-6 years of age has been
constantly declining in India. It went down from 945 in
1991 to 927 in 2001 to an all-time low of 918 in 2011
Objectives:

i. To prevent gender biased sex selective elimination

ii. To ensure survival and protection of the girl child

iii. To ensure education and participation of the girl child


POPULATION TARGETED

Primary: Young and newly married couples; Pregnant and Lactating mothers; parents

Secondary: Youth, adolescents (girls and boys), in-laws, medical doctors/ practitioners, private
hospitals, nursing homes and diagnostic centres

Tertiary: Officials, PRIs; frontline workers, women SHGs/Collectives, religious leaders, voluntary
organizations, media, medical associations, industry associations, general public as a whole

ROLES OF VARIOUS MINISTRIES:
MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD
DEVELOPEMENT
This ministry has the responsibility of the overall
implementation of the policy, starting mass reaching
campaigns on social media, training of government
officials and other stakeholders, making of an online
portal for collection and monitoring of data
MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY
WELFARE

This ministry has the responsibility of implementing the Pre-Conception


& Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act perfectly.This act
prevents improper use of prenatal sex determination for the killing of the
female fetus and states that the prenatal sex determination can only be
used in case of determining any kind of abnormality.
MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE AND
DEVELOPMENT
This ministry has the responsibility to ensure that the
environment of schools is conducive for the education
of the girl child such as to construct and ensure
function girl’s washroom in schools and to make
guidelines for girl child-friendly schools including
schools which are residential
EFFECTS

1.Improvement in Sex Ratio at Birth(SRB)

2. Reduction in gender differentials in under-5 child


mortality rate

3. improvement in nutrition status of girls
